Frenkie de Jong could be sidelined for several months
FC Barcelona faces a new concern ahead of the start of the 2026-27 season after Frenkie de Jong returned with discomfort in his right knee following his participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Dutch midfielder underwent the routine medical examinations ahead of preseason. Initial assessments reportedly detected a significant problem that could keep him off the field for approximately four months.
Positive signs in Frenkie de Jong’s recovery
The potential injury represents another setback for the Dutchman, who has suffered several physical problems over the past few seasons.
De Jong missed several weeks of the previous campaign due to a muscle injury and had previously suffered an ankle problem that kept him sidelined for extended periods.
Barcelona must now wait for the definitive test results to determine whether its midfielder will be available for the start of the season or face another lengthy recovery.
