Scaloni Eyes Another Historic World Cup Milestone
A victory over England would make Lionel Scaloni only the second Argentine coach to lead his national team to two FIFA World Cup finals.
After guiding Argentina to the 2022 FIFA World Cup title in Qatar, Lionel Scaloni is now on the verge of adding another remarkable achievement to his coaching career.
If Argentina defeats England in the 2026 World Cup semifinals, Scaloni will become the seventh coach in World Cup history to reach two finals. He would also become only the second Argentine manager to accomplish the feat, joining Carlos Salvador Bilardo, who led Argentina to the 1986 and 1990 World Cup finals.
Reaching another final would place Scaloni alongside legendary coaches such as Vittorio Pozzo, Helmut Schön, Franz Beckenbauer, Carlos Alberto Parreira, Bilardo and Didier Deschamps, all of whom have managed teams in multiple World Cup finals.
Scaloni already cemented his legacy by winning the 2022 World Cup, but another appearance in the final would further strengthen his place among football's greatest international coaches.
Should Argentina go on to win the tournament, Scaloni would move one step closer to matching Vittorio Pozzo's unique record. The Italian remains the only coach to have won two FIFA World Cup titles, leading Italy to championships in 1934 and 1938.
With Lionel Messi potentially playing in his final World Cup and a well-established squad under Scaloni's leadership, Argentina is aiming to reach consecutive World Cup finals and continue one of the most successful eras in the nation's football history.
