Does Neymar Have One Last Dance Left or Will He Retire at Santos?
Neymar has left the door open regarding his future. The Brazilian star confirmed he will honor his contract with Santos, but he is not ruling out retirement once his current deal expires at the end of the year.
The future of Neymar is once again surrounded by uncertainty. After bringing his international career with Brazil to an end following the team's Round of 16 elimination at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the Brazilian forward admitted he has not yet decided what comes next once his contract with Santos expires in December.
At 34 years old, the Brazilian icon finds himself at one of the most important crossroads of his career. After returning to the club where his professional journey began, Neymar said he intends to fulfill the remainder of his contract before deciding whether to remain with Santos, pursue another challenge elsewhere, or bring his playing career to an end.
Retirement Remains a Possibility
Speaking during a charity event in São Paulo, Neymar was asked about his plans for 2027 but stopped short of making any definitive statement. The forward admitted he still does not know what his next step will be and explained that he will make his decision only after the season concludes.

The former FC Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain star also emphasized that his current priority is staying healthy and focusing on his performances on the field. After several injury-plagued seasons, Neymar believes regaining consistency is more important than thinking too far ahead.
Meanwhile, his father and agent, Neymar da Silva Santos, expressed a much more optimistic outlook, dismissing the idea of an immediate retirement. Speaking jokingly, he insisted that his son will continue playing because football is what he loves most.
Santos Hopes the Story Isn't Over Yet
Although his future remains undecided, Santos is still hopeful of convincing its biggest star to extend his stay beyond December. The Brazilian club believes Neymar's return has had a major impact both on and off the pitch, making him once again the centerpiece of the team's sporting project.
However, the forward has also found himself at the center of controversy in recent months. He recently faced criticism after taking part in a poker tournament while Santos was playing a Copa Sudamericana match, reigniting debate over his lifestyle away from football.
