Major League Soccer could be on the verge of welcoming another world-class name. According to reports from Italy, Atlanta United has opened talks to sign Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku, who appears ready to begin a new chapter of his career away from Napoli.
If completed, the move would make the 33-year-old one of the most high-profile signings in recent MLS history, further strengthening a league that continues to attract established stars from Europe's top competitions.
Atlanta United Must Reach an Agreement with Napoli
While Atlanta United's interest is reportedly genuine, the biggest hurdle remains negotiating a deal with Napoli. The Italian club is believed to be asking for more than €10 million to part ways with the Belgian international, a considerable investment for an MLS franchise.
The player's contract situation could also help facilitate a transfer. Lukaku is under contract until 2027, but both the striker and Napoli appear open to a move during the current transfer window. From the club's perspective, selling him now would allow them to collect a transfer fee rather than risk losing him on a free transfer when his contract expires.
