Auction of Zidane’s Shirt From the 2006 World Cup Final
The jersey that was prepared for Zinedine Zidane in the 2006 World Cup final against Italy, which the Frenchman never got to wear.
The Aguttes auction house is selling until November 7 one of the shirts prepared for Zinedine Zidane for the final against Italy at the 2006 World Cup (although he never wore the garment in question), that is, what was the last match of his career as a player.
Aguttes estimates the item's price at between €15,000 and €30,000, and the auction has been running online since October 25.
The sending-off that marked his farewell
For Zidane it was a particularly bitter moment, as he was sent off during extra time for headbutting Marco Materazzi in the chest, after the Italian defender insulted him.
Accounts of the exact exchange between the two varied, but the Frenchman said Materazzi had gravely insulted his mother and sister in what was the last match of his career.
An emblematic piece of French football
"Witness to the last match of Zinédine Zidane as a footballer, this piece illustrates one of the most emblematic episodes in the recent history of French football. The shirt was won at the time in an Adidas competition, and its winner has kept it since 2006," Aguttes said in a statement.
The sale, announced this summer, coincides with Zidane's return to the national team this year, in this case as coach. EFE
