The Most Valuable National Teams in the AFCON 2027 Qualifiers

  • Côte d’Ivoire tops Transfermarkt’s squad market-value table, ahead of Senegal and Morocco. The figures reflect the estimated worth of the players listed for each team, not their chances of qualifying.

The AFCON 2027 Qualifiers will feature 48 national teams in the group stage. Among them, Ivory Coast, Senegal and Morocco have the highest estimated squad values according to Transfermarkt’s ranking for the 2026-27 competition. The comparison uses the combined market value of the players registered in each squad, a figure that can change with squad selections and market value updates.

Ivory Coast sit in first place with a total market value of €522.10 million, spread across 26 players. Their average of €20.08 million per player is also the highest in the ranking. The presence of Yan Diomandé, valued at €90 million, helps explain the Ivorian squad’s high overall valuation.

The Elephants are in Group C alongside Ghana, Gambia and Somalia. Ghana also rank among the most valuable national teams, meaning the group features two of the top five sides in the market value ranking.

Senegal and Morocco complete the top three

Senegal sit second with a total market value of €478.10 million across 26 players, equivalent to an average of €18.39 million. In Group J, they will face Mozambique, Sudan and Ethiopia.

Morocco occupy third place in the ranking used, with a total market value of €447.70 million and 26 players. Their average stands at €17.22 million per player. Achraf Hakimi, valued at €80 million, is one of the names contributing to the Moroccan squad’s overall valuation. The Atlas Lions will compete in Group A alongside Gabon, Niger and Lesotho.

Which teams follow them?

Algeria rank fourth with a total market value of €256.90 million, followed by Ghana in fifth with €234.35 million and Cameroon in sixth with €198.70 million.

Nigeria sit seventh with €172.05 million, followed by the Democratic Republic of the Congo (€143.90 million), Mali (€116.55 million) and Egypt (€116.48 million). The difference between the last two teams is just €70,000 in the ranking consulted.

These figures correspond to the squads listed by Transfermarkt, not the combined value of every player eligible to represent each country. Squad size also influences the totals: the database lists 26 players for Ivory Coast, Senegal and Morocco, but only 23 for Nigeria.

Market value cannot secure qualification

CAF divided the 48 national teams into 12 groups of four. As a general rule, the top two teams in each group will qualify. In the groups containing hosts Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania, only the highest-placed team among the other three participants will secure an additional qualification spot.

Market values provide a common basis for comparing squads, but qualification will be decided over six matches per national team, not by the estimated value of their players.
