The CrossFit Games organization decided to continue the competition following the death of Lazar Dukic during Event 1, though they held a tribute before resuming Friday's events.

At the Dickies Arena, all the athletes gathered for a moment of silence in memory of the Serbian competitor. The cameras frequently focused on his brother Luka, who appeared visibly devastated.

"An extraordinary athlete, brother, son, partner, and friend. All who knew him will deeply miss his competitive spirit, uncommon kindness, and joyful presence," the announcer said about Đukić.

During Event 1 of the 2024 CrossFit Games, the Serbian athlete disappeared in the final stretch of the swim, about 100 meters from the finish line. Later, the competition's organization announced that he had passed away.

"CrossFit is deeply saddened by the death of one of the competitors in the 2024 CrossFit Games."

The statement also noted that the organization is working closely with the authorities: "We are fully cooperating with the authorities and doing everything possible to support the family during this difficult time."

Several attendees reported seeing Dukic struggling in the water. Additionally, during the live broadcast of the CrossFit Games, the Serbian athlete could be seen having difficulty staying above water.
