When Will "Checo" Pérez Make His Formula 1 Debut With Cadillac?
Mexican driver Sergio "Checo" Pérez already has the date set for his return to Formula 1 with Cadillac, in a 2026 season that promises major changes on the grid.
Checo’s Challenge With Cadillac
The return of Checo Pérez to Formula 1 is now official. After a year away from the grid, the Mexican will be one of the key figures of Cadillac, the American team making its debut in 2026. At 35, Pérez will enter his 15th season in F1, this time tasked with leading a project that aims to establish itself from the very first laps.
The team’s arrival coincides with the introduction of new FIA technical regulations. These changes could shake up the established order, allowing any team to become a title contender. For Cadillac, having the experience and consistency of Checo Pérez will be crucial in building a competitive foundation.
Preseason Testing Schedule
Before the official start of the campaign, Pérez will get behind the wheel during three weeks of testing that will serve as a full rehearsal. The first session will take place at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya from January 26 to 30, where the car will see its first laps on track.
The action then moves to Bahrain, with two sessions in Sakhir: February 11–13 and February 18–20. These tests will allow Cadillac and Pérez to gather vital data, compare performance with rivals, and fine-tune every detail before the lights go out in March.
Official Debut in Australia 2026
The official debut of Checo Pérez with Cadillac will take place at the Australian Grand Prix, scheduled for March 6–8, 2026, in Melbourne. It’s a circuit the Mexican knows well, having raced there 12 times throughout his career, including a podium finish in 2022.
From there, the season will run until December in Abu Dhabi, featuring 24 races in total. Among the biggest changes is the return of Madrid with a brand-new street circuit in September.
