'Things won't go wrong anymore' for the Netherlands, says Koeman
The Netherlands have all but confirmed their place in the 2026 World Cup, but Ronald Koeman wants to wrap up qualifying with a win.
Ronald Koeman says "things won't go wrong" for the Netherlands as they look to book their place at the 2026 World Cup against Lithuania.
The Netherlands missed the chance to secure their berth at next year's tournament on Friday after being held to a 1-1 draw with Poland.
The Oranje hold only a three-point lead over Poland at the top of Group G but boast a significantly better goal difference than Jan Urban's side (+19 to +6), meaning even a defeat would likely see them qualify.
Koeman's side are unbeaten in World Cup qualifying so far, though, and beat Lithuania 3-2 in the reverse fixture, with the head coach now keen to finish their campaign on a high.
"Things won't go wrong anymore, so you can also look at player fatigue," Koeman said.
"We want to make it a good match, with good football and goals."
Koeman was left frustrated after the draw with Poland, criticising some of the defending that led to their opponents' goal, but he is determined to see an improvement at the Johan Cruyff ArenA.
"That could be. Perhaps you react a little less quickly when switching back," he added.
"There were also moments when we were outplayed too easily. That urgency can and must improve.
"There was no joy afterwards, not because we didn't qualify, but more because it wasn't a good match. We didn't create many chances, and on defence, a few things shouldn't have happened.
"It's good that we feel that way. You don't have to be a nine or a 10 [out of 10] every match, but you have to be more consistent in lesser matches."
The Netherlands will be without Justin Kluivert for Monday's match after the attacker returned to Bournemouth due to injury.
He was the fourth player to pull out of the team's camp this month, after Wout Weghorst, Quilindschy Hartman and Denzel Dumfries.
