'Please start scoring against other teams' – Frank makes Kolo Munai request after Frankfurt heroics
All three of Randal Kolo Muani's goals for Tottenham have come against his former clubs, after he netted versus Eintracht Frankfurt.
Thomas Frank joked it was time for Randal Kolo Muani to start scoring against teams he has not played for, after he netted versus Eintracht Frankfurt to help Tottenham into the last 16 of the Champions League.
Kolo Muani and Dominic Solanke scored as Spurs won 2-0 at Deutsche Bank Park on Wednesday, securing a fourth-place finish in the league stage of Europe's elite competition.
All three of Kolo Muani's goals in a Spurs shirt have come against teams he has previously represented, having also netted twice in a 5-3 loss to Paris Saint-Germain in November.
The Frenchman – who is on loan from Juventus – has failed to score in 15 Premier League appearances but has three goals in his last four Champions League matches, as many as he managed in his previous 26 games in the competition.
"I was very happy that he scored the goal. He looked like a threat. I think he had great actions throughout the game," Frank said of Kolo Muani.
"I'm very happy that he got the goal and I said to him, 'please start scoring against other teams that aren't your former clubs!' That would be nice.
"But we know when you come to a new club, a new country, it's never straightforward and especially not in the Premier League. I hope this will give him some confidence."
Though Spurs are still struggling in the bottom half of the Premier League table, they have won three straight Champions League matches for the first time since November 2019, and they have only ever failed to progress from the group or league stage once in seven attempts (in 2016-17).
Frank believes his team showed signs of development in Germany, pointing out there have been plenty of shock results elsewhere over the last two matchdays.
"I think in this game, we were more or less in control from the beginning to the end. I think that's a big thing," he said.
"We've seen some of the results in the Champions League tonight. We've seen some of the results throughout the league phase – there are no easy games.
"We're sitting here with 17 points, finishing fourth in the group stage, with our sixth sheet. I think it's very impressive. Of course, we're still working on creating, but I think we created quite a lot today, which I'm very pleased with."
