Paqueta takes swipe at FA for lack of support after Liverpool red card
Following his bizarre red card against Liverpool, Lucas Paqueta took to social media to launch an extraordinary rant at the FA.
West Ham midfielder Lucas Paqueta has taken a swipe at the Football Association (FA), accusing them of a lack of "psychological support" following his red card against Liverpool.
The Brazil international was sent off during the closing stages of the Hammers' 2-0 defeat at the London Stadium.
Paqueta inexplicably received two yellow cards in the space of a minute for dissent towards referee Darren England, with former West Ham goalkeeper Rob Green describing his actions as "completely irresponsible".
Hammers boss Nuno Espirito Santo later said he would speak to the player to try and understand the reason behind his frustrations, which led to the hosts playing the closing stages a man down.
Paqueta was not finished there, though, as he later took a swipe at the FA on his social media channels.
The midfielder was cleared of spot-fixing charges earlier this year, after being accused by the FA of deliberately receiving four yellow cards in Premier League games between November 2022 and August 2023.
However, Paqueta was warned about his future conduct, having failed to cooperate with the investigation.
"It's ridiculous to have your life and career affected for two years without any psychological support from the federation," he wrote on X.
"Perhaps this ridiculous behaviour is just a reflection of everything I've had to endure and, it seems, have to continue enduring! I'm sorry I'm not perfect."
The Brazil international added in Portuguese: "I understand that now I have to look like the villain; it's difficult to live with everything that has been caused in my life and in my mental health!
"I will continue trying to prevent them from affecting me even more. This does not justify my expulsion, and for that I apologise to the fans and my team-mates!"
