Hull City boss Jakirovic signs new contract
Hull City has confirmed its promotion-winning head coach Sergej Jakirovic has penned a new two-year contract after overseeing its outstanding Premier League start.
The Tigers have opened the new campaign – their first at the top table since 2016-2017 – with back-to-back victories, defeating Manchester United and Coventry City.
They host Aston Villa in their third game of the season on Sunday (AEST), and a victory would make them just the second promoted club to open a Premier League campaign with three victories, after Bolton Wanderers in 2001-2002.
Jakirovic confirmed in his pre-match press conference that he had made the "easy decision" to agree fresh terms, and his new contract was confirmed later that day.
"I have felt the support from the club and our fans from the minute I arrived, so I am delighted that this journey will continue," he said.
"Hull feels like my home and I’m excited for this journey to continue."
Having taken charge ahead of the 2025-2026 season, which started with Hull ranked among the favourites for relegation to EFL League One, Jakirovic has won 25 of his 55 matches in charge, the biggest of those being against Middlesbrough in May's EFL Championship play-off final.
He previously won league titles in Bosnia-Herzegovina and Croatia, with Zrinjski Mostar and Dinamo Zagreb, respectively.
