Calvert-Lewin lauds Leeds support after last-gasp winner against Brighton
Dominic Calvert-Lewin continued his fine form with a stoppage-time winner on Sunday, helping Leeds United to victory over Brighton.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin was full of praise for the support he has received from the Leeds United fans this season following his stoppage-time winner over Brighton on Sunday.
Calvert-Lewin struck in the 96th-minute to help Leeds clinch a 1-0 victory at Elland Road, extending their unbeaten Premier League run to eight matches (W4 D4) – their longest undefeated streak in the competition since a run of 13 in November 2001.
The England international leads the Whites with 14 league goals in 2025-26 and has found a rich vein of form – scoring in each of his last three games – to help secure survival.
Among English players, Calvert-Lewin has scored the joint-most in the top flight this season, alongside Morgan Gibbs-White and Ollie Watkins, and he believes a big part of his success has come down to the support he has experienced from the Leeds fans.
"I've loved every minute of this season. I'm so grateful to play in front of these fans," Calvert-Lewin told Sky Sports. "You see the reception I get when I score, the whole stadium is singing my name.
"It's a great feeling for everyone involved. All our families are here, as is the case for the final home game of the season.
"Games like this, you've got to hang in there. The pitch dried up a little bit and I think that helped me. It shows the mentality we have got, and we want to try and finish as high as possible up the table."
Timed at 95:02, Calvert-Lewin struck Leeds' latest winning goal on record (from 2006-07) in a Premier League match, off their first shot on target.
Indeed, Daniel Farke's side became just the fourth team on record (from 2003-04) to win a Premier League game 1-0 with their only shot on target coming in the 90th minute (or later), after West Ham v Liverpool in January 2008, Huddersfield v Watford in April 2018, and West Brom v Tottenham Hotspur in May 2018.
"I love my players and I always believe in them. These are a priceless three points for us," Farke told Sky Sports.
"It sums up our season perfectly. It was such a difficult game, we had to defend, but we stayed in the game."
Brighton, meanwhile, saw their European hopes take a big hit, owing to a lack of composure in the final third, with Pascal Gross, Jack Hinshelwood, and Diego Gomez all spurning chances.
The Seagulls totalled 19 shots, and only on three occasions have they had more shots in an away Premier League match without scoring, most recently in April 2024 at Brentford (24).
"We could have had an easier day if we had used our chances and scored," Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler said.
"It was one mistake by us. That happens. If there weren't mistakes there would never be goals. We did a lot of things right today.
"It was quite open until the end. One match to go... that's why we stay positive."
