Brentford 2-2 Crystal Palace: Ouattara's late leveller keeps Andrews' men in European contention
Brentford left it late to snatch a draw against Crystal Palace, a result that sends their European challenge going to the final day.
Dango Ouattara scored twice, including an 88th-minute equaliser, as Brentford came from behind twice to draw 2-2 with Crystal Palace and keep their European hopes alive.
Adam Wharton's first goal for Palace looked set to halt a five-match winless run in the Premier League for the Eagles, but Brentford dug deep to stay in the hunt for a top-six spot.
Oliver Glasner's side were awarded a sixth-minute penalty after Ismaila Sarr was brought down by Caoimhin Kelleher, with the Palace number seven dusting himself down to score from 12 yards after the spot-kick was given following a VAR review.
Palace continued to dominate the opening period and almost doubled their lead through Sarr, but after he was slipped in by Yeremy Pino, his shot rattled against the crossbar.
The visitors struck the woodwork again in the 33rd minute when Jorgen Strand Larsen let fly, and Brentford made them pay for their profligacy five minutes before half-time when Jaydee Canvot's headed clearance rebounded off Ouattara and into the net.
But the Eagles restored their advantage seven minutes after the restart through Wharton, who saw his effort from just outside the area squirm under the grasp of Kelleher.
Brentford struggled to create any clear-cut opportunities, but they did get themselves level in the 88th minute after Michael Kayode's long throw was flicked to the back post by Sepp van den Berg for Ouattara to nod in the equaliser.
The Bees could have even snatched all three points in the 10 additional minutes of stoppage time, but Kevin Schade wildly lashed his shot over the crossbar before Igor Thiago repeated the trick as the spoils were shared at Gtech Community Stadium.
Data Debrief: Super Sarr scores again
Though his goal was unable to help his team get a victory, Sarr has been the standout player for Palace this season. His goal here was his 21st in all competitions, a tally only Manchester City's Erling Haaland (37) and Brentford's Thiago (25) can better among Premier League players.
In addition, his goal tally is the joint-most by any player for the Eagles in a single campaign as a top-flight club, equalling Andy Johnson in 2004-05. But at the opposite end of the spectrum, on what was his 94th Palace appearance in all competitions, Wharton scored for the first time with his 81st shot.
And it was yet another missed opportunity for Palace after taking the lead twice. They have now lost 21 points from leading positions in the Premier League this season, with only Newcastle United throwing away more (27 – before Sunday's game against West Ham).
But Glasner may feel his side were fortunate to even come away with a point. The Eagles finished with an expected goals (xG) total of 1.67 from their 16 shots, compared to Brentford's 2.05 from 14 attempts.
