Amad's stunning volley rescues a point for United
Amad Diallo scored a stunning late volley to rescue a dramatic 2-2 draw for Manchester United against Nottingham Forest at The City Ground.
The Red Devils appeared poised for defeat on the first anniversary of Ruben Amorim's appointment as manager after making a dreadful start to the second half.
United was leading at the interval through Casemiro's header from a 34th-minute Bruno Fernandes corner, one which the hosts insisted should not have been awarded.
However, quickfire goals from Morgan Gibbs-White and Nicolo Savona in the space of 102 seconds turned the game on its head after the break.
Yet, Amad intervened in magnificent fashion with nine minutes remaining to secure a share of the spoils, and almost snatched all three points in the dying moments when his last-gasp strike was cleared off the line by Murillo.
United could have gone second in the Premier League table with a victory, but the draw still sees it climb a place to fifth, while Forest remains in 18th position.
"If I think about the game, we lost control for five minutes," Amorim said after the game. "I feel in the recent past, if we had had this situation [from 1-0 up and 2-1 down], we would have struggled so much more than today.
"My feeling is we played well, but we dropped a little bit of energy. When we have the full energy, we are the better team. My players are giving everything, but we have the potential to do better.
"Sometimes, we have these moments. In the end, we lost two points, and we need to get three points in the next game."
Amad demonstrated his support for Amorim, whose side appears to have turned a corner in recent times, but could not hide his frustration at leaving The City Ground with one point instead of three.
"I don't know if it is the goal of the season," the winger said of his memorable strike. "We are really disappointed to go home with one point.
"We have confidence now. We believe in the manager and the system. We are trying to do our best. We believe in the manager like he believes in us."
There was also disappointment in the Forest dressing room, with the hosts believing Savona prevented the ball from going behind for the corner that led to United's opening goal.
"It's not inconclusive. I've seen it back," head coach Sean Dyche said. "That's two decisions that are not right that have gone against us.
"They give corners that aren't corners. They gave one last week [in the 2-0 defeat at Bournemouth] and one this week. It's a really poor decision. That decides a lot. We are fighting for our lives to get up the table."
"To get a point is good, but the dressing room is frustrated not to get all three," Morgan Gibbs-White said.
"We conceded two silly corners [from which they scored], I don't think the first one was even a corner. From where I was standing, I was pretty far away, all the boys were saying at half-time the ball hadn't gone out.
"It's something that needs looking at because it has cost us two extra points today. It's time to kick on. We need to start getting more points."
