Mbappe, Diomande star as Madrid thumps Sevilla
Real Madrid followed up its dramatic midweek Champions League win over Roma by scoring four goals again as Kylian Mbappe netted twice in a 4-1 win over Sevilla.
With the suspended Vinicius Junior unavailable, Mbappe led from the front, while summer signing Yan Diomande also impressed by grabbing a goal and an assist.
Sevilla started brightly at Estadio Bernabeu, with Robbie Ure's glancing header saved by Thibaut Courtois before Ruben Vargas fired just wide of the left post on the swivel.
Federico Valverde's shot from distance was then inadvertently cleared by Mbappe, but Madrid opened the scoring in the 30th minute in some style. Diomande drove down the left before laying the ball back to Arda Guler, who curled a sensational strike over Odysseas Vlachodimos.
Jose Mourinho's side doubled its advantage seven minutes later through Mbappe, with the Frenchman collecting Jude Bellingham's neat flick on the turn before rounding Vlachodimos and rolling the ball home.
Chidera Ejuke, a half-time replacement for Sevilla, almost made an instant impact but could only fire over before Diomande pulled his shot wide at the other end moments later.
But the host pulled further clear just after the hour when Mbappe was tripped inside the penalty area by Andres Castrin, with the Madrid number 10 stepping up and confidently dinking the resulting spot-kick down the middle.
Sevilla did not let their heads drop and got themselves on the scoresheet in the 80th minute when Manu Bueno dispossessed Mbappe before playing a neat one-two with Lucas Stassin and curling into the bottom-left corner.
However, any hopes of an unlikely Sevilla comeback were ruthlessly ended by Diomande, who capped a fine individual performance with a stunning strike that rifled into the top corner and sealed an emphatic victory.
