Flick confirms he'll be sticking around at Barca
Hansi Flick confirmed he has reached an agreement to renew his contract with LaLiga giant Barcelona until 2028.
Flick has led the Blaugrana to back-to-back titles, with Monday's win over Clasico rival Real Madrid giving them an unassailable 14-point lead at the top with three games to play.
The former Bayern Munich boss is only the fourth coach to win LaLiga in each of his first two seasons with Barca this century, after Pep Guardiola, Luis Enrique and Ernesto Valverde.
His previous contract with Barca was due to expire at the end of 2026-27, but at a press conference to preview Wednesday's trip to Alaves, he confirmed he had agreed to stay for a further year.
"I think a lot of coaches would only be happy to sign on a three or four-year deal. But in the case of Barca, it is better to limit it," Flick said.
"We will continue until 2028 and, if all goes well, we will make the decision to continue for another year.
It is also a commitment on our part. Next season will be even more demanding, because we want to reach new goals and win more titles.
"Everyone dreams of the Champions League and we will try again. I feel very grateful."
After visiting Alaves, Barca hosts Real Betis and go to Valencia in its final two games. After that, Flick's attention will turn to the transfer window.
"We are clear about what positions both I and the board of directors need to strengthen," he said. "We've been talking about it a lot these last weeks and months, but it's still a job we haven't finished doing."
Barca's title triumph came on the same day that Flick's father passed away, with the Blaugrana coach still taking his place on the touchline and appearing visibly emotional during the post-match celebrations.
The events of recent days have only deepened his attachment to the club, as he said: "During these last few days, I have been able to verify that I am in the right place.
"It has been a very positive agreement for both parties and they have shown me that this is the place where I want to be."
Should Barca win their remaining league games, Flick would become only the third coach in LaLiga history to oversee a 100-point season.
Jose Mourinho (Real Madrid, 2011-12) and Tito Vilanova (2012-13) are the only coaches to have previously achieved the feat.
"Now the objective is to reach 100 points and, therefore, we have to win the three remaining matches. We've celebrated a lot, but we can also keep playing well," Flick said.
Alaves has plenty to play for as it sits 18th in the table, occupying the final relegation place but only two points behind Girona.
