Simon Adingra will spend the 2026-27 campaign in the Eredivisie after his loan move to Ajax from Sunderland was confirmed on Wednesday.
Adingra departs Sunderland for Ajax on season-long loan
After failing to make an impact at Sunderland, Simon Adingra will look to revive his career in the Netherlands with Eredivisie giants Ajax.
Adingra spent the second half of last season on loan at Monaco before returning to Sunderland for pre-season, but he failed to make an impact for Regis Le Bris' side.
The 24-year-old's move to Ajax includes an option to buy for a reported €15.9m (£13.7m) transfer fee, with the Eredivisie side also paying a €3.8m (£3.3m) loan fee.
During his time at the Stadium of Light, Adingra made just 15 appearances across all competitions, 10 of which were starts, but he was only able to score one goal.
He joined Monaco in February and featured 17 times for the Ligue 1 side, going on to register five goal involvements (three goals, two assists) in all competitions.
Monaco had the option to make the deal permanent this summer, but they decided against exercising that clause, allowing Adingra to return to England.
A move to the Championship with West Ham was reported earlier this summer, but Adingra sustained an injury in pre-season. He is still sidelined, but he is expected to be back in action in the coming weeks after completing his move to the Netherlands.
Adingra is Ajax's 11th signing this summer, with the likes of Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Sofyan Amrabat, Julian Brandt and Marcos Leonardo also joining Michel's side.
Ajax have begun their Eredivisie campaign by collecting seven points from their opening three games, with rivals PSV their next league opponents on Saturday.
While Adingra has moved on, Jocelin Ta Bi has stayed at Sunderland after his loan move to Championship side Burnley collapsed late on deadline day.
But the Black Cats were able to strengthen their attack at the final hour, beating Premier League rivals Crystal Palace to the signing of Malick Fofana from Lyon.
