Palmeiras boss fumes at pitch imperfect
The 1-1 draw between Cerro Porteno and Palmeiras in Copa Libertadores Group F Matchday 3 sparked controversy beyond the result, with the home side alleged to have reduced the size of the pitch.
Reports suggested the pitch width was reduced from 68 to 64 meters, the minimum allowed under regulations.
Palmeiras manager Abel Ferreira was ropable after watching his side slip-up to the Paraguayan outfit on the smaller pitch.
“I have never seen something like this in my life," Ferreira fumed. "It’s the first time I’ve seen something like this.
“Do you know what century we are in? It’s sad to see this in the 21st century”.
Cerro Porteno manager Ariel Holan dismissed the criticism.
“The rules are clear… in South America it’s 100 by 64. Today it was 64 wide and 105 long. That’s not decisive for the game”.
