Phenomenal Fatawu fires Leicester past Charlton
A sensational goal from Abdul Fatawu ensured Leicester City came away from The Valley with all three points as Charlton Athletic succumbed to a 1-0 defeat in the EFL Championship.
The Foxes outclassed the Addicks, ensuring it returned to winning ways after a 2-1 defeat to Preston North End last time out.
Fatawu’s spectacular effort was the difference between the two sides, the 21-year-old’s 48th-minute strike serving up Charlton's first loss of the campaign.
The winger cut in from the right and sent a sublime, powerful effort soaring into the far corner.
Fatawu has been linked with a move back to the Premier League, and it is no surprise om the evidence he provided in this game.
Manager Marti Cifuentes made no secret of the fact he wants to keep him beyond the end of the transfer window.
On speculation linking Fatawu with a move away from the club, Cifuentes said: "It's a lot of speculation around most of our players.
"That means they're good players and we know that. There are rumours and speculation around them. The target is we arrive on 1 September in a good position with a team we want to have.
"There are some key players we want to keep, and Abdul is one of them."
"It was a fantastic goal that summarises really clearly what Abdul means for us, extreme quality especially in the last third".
The Foxes ended a run of nine away league matches without a victory, which was their longest such run on the road since a 15-game streak between May 2016 and February 2017.
In the process, they also ensured Charlton could not celebrate becoming the 20th team to hit 1,000 home matches in the second tier with a positive result.
