The Bavarian side did not need long to open the scoring with Leroy Sane drilling in for the lead from a Thomas Muller assist in the seventh minute.

Raphael Guerreiro doubled their lead after a one-two with Harry Kane five minutes later and Bayern killed off the contest with a 26th-minute penalty from Kane, who helped himself to his 16th league goal of the season.

Bayern picked up where it left off after the break with Sane helping himself to a brace, before substitute Serge Gnabry tapped in their fifth in the 66th minute.

Hoffenheim was nowhere to be seen for 70 minutes with no efforts on target before Manuel Neuer pulled off a stunning save to deny Finn Becker a consolation goal.

Despite cold and snowy conditions, the hosts kept up the pressure and had several clear chances to further extend their lead.

Vincent Kompany's team is up to 42 points, four ahead of defending champion Bayer Leverkusen, which beat Mainz 1-0 on Wednesday (AEDT) to temporarily narrow the gap.
