Fellhauer benefited from a blunder by Bayern's Manuel Neuer as the keeper tried to clear from the kick-off, but he sent the ball to the Augsburg player, who improved the record held jointly by Kevin Volland and Karim Bellarabi with goals after nine seconds.

The Bavarian side, whose only league defeat in its past 48 matches was by Augsburg in January, upped its game after the break, having an effort ruled offside in the 51st before Ismael Saibari bagged the equaliser four minutes later.

It was another Neuer error that put Augsburg ahead again in the 64th minute, the 40-year-old punching Calvin Brackelmann's shot into the path of Rodrigo Ribeiro who only had to push the ball over the line.

Bayern battled back once more, however, when Harry Kane, who hit the woodwork in the first half, cut the ball back for Nathaniel Brown to tap in the equaliser 10 minutes from time.

Gnabry hit the post three minutes but Bayern had to settle for a point and second place on 11. Borussia Dortmund remains top on 13 points after it's own 2-2 draw against Werder Bremen on Saturday (AEDT).

Neuer, who at 40 years and 197 days old has overtaken Jens Lehmann to become the seventh-oldest player in Bundesliga history, accepted his errors were key to Augsburg's goals, not least the first one.

"It was a silly mistake by me,"  he said.

"I had to bring the ball on to my left foot because two players were closing me down from the right. I should simply have made a different decision.

"I first had to reflect, take a deep breath and, of course, I still hoped we could turn the game around.

"I think we had the chances to do so, but unfortunately, we failed to take them."

Despite the costly mistake from Neuer, Bayern boss Vincent Kompany has backed his goalkeeper to bounce back quickly.

"Of course, we wished for a better start. I've played enough football to know that this happens, and you can't change it," Kompany said.

"He [Neuer] knows how to deal with the situation, and we stand together as a team."
