Socceros duo stars as St Pauli routs Nurnberg
Australia's Jackson Irvine was in the thick of it again as his assist helped St Pauli to a 5-1 thumping of FC Nurnberg in 2. Bundesliga, with countryman Connor Metcalfe scoring the fifth goal in a win that moved the hosts to the top of the standings.
Elias Saad struck inside four minutes for the hosts from close range, but a mistake by Pauli goalkeeper Nikola Vasilj allowed Mats Moller Daehli to feed Kanji Okunuki for an equaliser against the run of play.
Pauli restored order shortly after the restart when Johannes Eggestein took advantage of a defensive mix-up to turn in an Eric Smith free-kick, before doubling his tally with a composed 12-yard finish.
Stoppage-time goals from substitutes Etienne Amenyido and Metcalfe added the gloss as Pauli extended its record as the only unbeaten team left in the division to nine matches.
