Aussie Dylan Leonard makes long-awaited Schalke debut
This is the heart-warming moment Australian teenager Dylan Leonard made his debut, off the bench, for German football giant and promotion-bount 2. Bundesliga leader Schalke, in the 80th minute of its 4-1 win over Prussia Munster.
The moment capped off a long wait for the 18 year-old, who burst onto the scene with now-defunct A-League club Western united in 24/25.
The moment brought to an end an eight-month wait for Leonard, who signed with the Royal Blues last September, but has had his minutes reduced to a handful of substitute appearances in club friendlies.
After playing 45 minutes in a club friendly again Osnabruck in January, Leonard told the Schalke website: “My dream is to play here in front of more than 60,000 fans at the VELTINS-Arena. I’m giving everything to make sure I’m ready for that moment.”
Three months on from that game, his dream became a reality in front of a packed home crowd, as Schalke took another step towards promotion with a dominant win over Prussia.
