Potential Ruud awakening for Ramos-Vinolas in Barcelona
After defeat in his first ATP 1000 final on Sunday, Albert Ramos-Vinolas' next assignment on the ATP Tour comes in the shape of Casper Ruud.
Casper Ruud eased into a second-round clash with Albert Ramos-Vinolas at the Barcelona Open thanks to a straight-sets success over Radu Albot on Monday.
The Norwegian won through 6-2 6-2, his reward a meeting with Ramos-Vinolas, who as 10th seed enjoyed a first-round bye one day after his first ATP 1000 final at the Monte-Carlo Masters, where he was beaten by Rafael Nadal.
Nine-time and defending champion Nadal and world number one Andy Murray will not enter this ATP 500 event until Wednesday, with their second-round opponents to be decided on Tuesday.
Murray will be joined by fellow Brits Kyle Edmund and Dan Evans, both of whom secured safe passage, while there was joy for the home fans as Marcel Granollers, Albert Montanes and 2013 runner-up Nicolas Almagro all advanced.
Andreas Seppi, lucky loser Yuichi Sugita and Kevin Anderson were the other first-round winners at Real Club de Tenis Barcelona on Monday - Sugita ousting home favourite Tommy Robredo 6-4 6-3.
Meanwhile, at the ATP 250 Budapest Open, Damir Dzumhur came from behind to defeat Steve Darcis 3-6 6-2 6-2 and set up a second-round tie with second seed Ivo Karlovic.
Respective sixth and seventh seeds Paolo Lorenzi and Viktor Troicki both progressed in straight sets, while the other winners from Monday's action were Laslo Djere - who will face Troicki - and Martin Klizan.
