Muller no match for Djokovic in Paris
Novak Djokovic secured a comfortable progression to the third round of the Paris Masters with a 6-3 6-4 victory over Gilles Muller on Wednesday.
Djokovic is under pressure in the French capital this week, knowing victory for Andy Murray would see the Scot usurp him as world number one unless he is the beaten finalist.
Murray would also claim top spot if he reaches the final and Djokovic fails to make the last four.
But the Serbian, aiming for a fourth successive triumph at this event, offered little suggestion that an early exit could be on the cards as he dispatched of world number 34 Muller in straight sets.
Djokovic faced minimal threat on his own serve in the opening set, conceding just three points - two of which were double faults.
That said, it took the top seed four set points to move in front, and the second proved to be a much more even affair.
Indeed, Djokovic dropped more points in one game - the fourth - than he had done in the entirety of the first set.
However, the 29-year-old made the decisive break to go 5-4 up and leave himself serving for the match, booking a third-round clash with Grigor Dimitrov.
