Groth through to face Thiem
As the Stuttgart Open got under way, Sam Groth saw off Illya Marchenko in straight sets to book a second-round meeting with Dominic Thiem.
Sam Groth will face French Open semi-finalist Dominic Thiem in the second round of the Stuttgart Open after seeing off Illya Marchenko with minimal fuss.
Thiem reached his first grand-slam semi at Roland Garros, only to be defeated by eventual champion Novak Djokovic.
The Austrian is seeded third for this ATP 250 grass-court event and as such enjoys a bye into the second round, where he will face Groth, who breezed past Marchenko 7-5 6-4.
In the other main-draw match on Monday, Michael Berrer fought back from a set down to oust Malek Jaziri 6-7 (7-9) 6-2 6-4.
