Bottas hit with five-place British GP grid penalty for gearbox change
The prospect of a second successive victory for Valtteri Bottas has been struck a blow, the Finn receiving a five-place grid penalty.
Valtteri Bottas has been hit with a five-place grid penalty for the British Grand Prix for an unscheduled gearbox change.
The Mercedes driver bolstered his Formula One title aspirations with victory at the Austrian Grand Prix last week and was quickest in both practice sessions at Silverstone on Friday.
But the highest he will be able to line up on the grid on Sunday is sixth following the penalty, which is the same punishment team-mate Lewis Hamilton received for his gearbox change in Austria.
Hamilton fought his way up from eighth to finish fourth as Bottas held off Sebastian Vettel for victory.
Ferrari driver Vettel leads the drivers' standings by 20 points from Hamilton, with Bottas 15 points further back.
