Mickelson shines as Swafford leads in California
Hudson Swafford leads the CareerBuilder Challenge but Phil Mickelson produced another impressive round on Friday.
Phil Mickelson continued to shine in California during the second round of the CareerBuilder Challenge, but he remains behind leader Hudson Swafford.
Tournament ambassador Mickelson shot a six-under 66 to finish round two at 10 under, four shots behind Swafford.
Mickelson finished Friday's round with six birdies, two bogeys and an eagle.
Swafford shot his second consecutive seven-under 65 after a bogey-free round. He is still searching for his first PGA Tour victory.
Danny Lee and PGA Tour rookie Dominic Bozzelli are just one shot back at 13 under.
Lee shot a bogey-free, eight-under 64 at La Quinta Country Club.
The tournament uses three different courses throughout the first three rounds to supplement its pro-am format. The Stadium Course, which is the host course, will be played on Sunday.
Charles Howell III is lurking at nine under. Though he has not won since 2007, he has collected 98 top-25 finishes since that season.
Paul Casey is at eight under, and last year's champion, Jason Dufner, is at seven under.
Notables Zach Johnson, Patrick Reed and Bill Haas are fighting to make the cut at four under.
The cut occurs after the third round, so each player gets a chance to play all three courses.
