The group stage of the Champions League comes to an end on Tuesday and Wednesday and 14 teams will be fighting it out for the 8 remaining places in the round of 16. Ahead of match day 6, we will break down what the sides need in order to qualify. As ever you can watch all of the Champions League live and Exclusively on beIN SPORTS CONNECT. 

Teams already qualified- Barcelona, Bayern München, Beşiktaş, Chelsea, Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid, Tottenham  Hotspur 

Who can still qualify- Atlético Madrid, Basel, CSKA Moskva, Juventus, Leipzig, Liverpool, Manchester United, Napoli, Porto, Roma, Sevilla,    Shakhtar Donetsk, Spartak Moskva, Sporting CP

Cannot finish in top two: Anderlecht, APOEL, Borussia Dortmund, Celtic

Will finish fourth: Benfica, Feyenoord, Maribor, Monaco, Olympiacos, Qarabağ 

Tuesday 5th December

Group A

Manchester United can qualify as group winners with just a point against CSKA Moscow.  Both Basel and CSKA are on nine points and are fighting for second place in the group. Basel can qualify if they can better CSKA’s result, the Swiss side will take on the bottom of the table Benfica away from home. Basel will also qualify if both sides lose or draw their matches as they have a superior head-to-head record against the Russians. CSKA need to pick up more points than Basel to progress if both Basel and CSKA win the Russians would need to win by three goals to qualify for second spot. 

Group B

Both PSG and Bayern Munich are confirmed for the knockout phase, and the match at the Allianz Arena is a shootout for the top spot in the group. The Parisians won the first game against Bayern 3-0, and the Bundesliga team will have to win by a four-goal margin to finish top. Celtic and Anderlecht can both still finish third and qualify for the Europa League. A point will confirm European football in the new year for the Scottish side, whilst Anderlecht can leapfrog them into third on goal difference providing they win 3-0. 

Group C

Chelsea has already qualified for the next round and will confirm top spot with a victory over Athletico Madrid, or if Roma fails to beat bottom of the table Qarabag. Roma will progress with a win over the Azerbaijani side, or if Athletico fails to beat Chelsea away from home. Athletico Madrid can still qualify, but they will have to win at Chelsea and hope that Roma drops points to Qarabag. If both Athletico and Roma draw, Athletico will progress with a superior head-to-head record. 

Group D

Barcelona is already confirmed as group winners. It’s down to Juventus and Sporting Lisbon to scrap it out for second place, and the Italians have the edge heading into the final group game. Juventus will progress with a win over bottom played Olympiacos, or if Sporting fails to get the victory away in Barcelona. If Sporting draw and Juventus loose they will be equal on eight points each, however, last season’s finalists Juve will progress as they have a superior head to head difference against the Portuguese side. 

Wednesday 6th December

Group E

Liverpool needs just a point to qualify for the round of sixteen. The reds can finish in the top spot with a victory, or a draw if Sevilla fails to win. As for Sevilla they can also qualify with a point when they take on the bottom of the table Maribor. The Spanish side can also top the group if they win and Liverpool fails to get a victory. Spartak Moscow can qualify with a victory away at Liverpool, any other result will see them qualify for the Europa League. 

Group F

Man City have already booked their place as group winners, leaving Shakhtar Donetsk and Napoli both with a chance of making the round of sixteen. Napoli must win at bottom of the table Feyenoord and hope that Shakhtar loses against Man City, the Italians would then qualify based on a better head to head record.  As for Shakhtar, they must avoid defeat or hope that Napoli loses to confirm their place in the round of 16. 

Group G

Beşiktaş is through to the last 16 as group winners. Both Porto and RB Leipzig are level on 7 points each and are battling for a spot in the knockout phase. Porto will progress with a victory over bottom-placed Monaco, or even if they end up on the same points as RB Leipzig as they have a superior head to head over the German side. Leipzig must have more points than Porto to qualify for the knock out stages for the first time in their history. 

Group H

The places in Group H have already been settled with Tottenham leading the group and Real Madrid finishing in second place. Dortmund and APOEL will contest third place. In case both teams draw Dortmund will be qualified due to superior goal difference in all matches. In case both teams win or lose the final ranking will depend on the number of goals scored and conceded in the last two matches.
