FA Cup Review: Southampton leave it late to beat Norwich
Southampton left it late to beat Norwich City 1-0, while Newcastle United cruised through with a 3-1 home win against Birmingham City.
There were just three FA Cup ties on Wednesday, with Liverpool, Southampton and Newcastle United heading through to the fourth round.
LONG LEAVES IT LATE
A sparse crowd at St Mary's had little to cheer for most of the FA Cup third round replay between Southampton and Norwich City.
There was much more entertainment in the 2-2 draw at Carrow Road, but it was the Saints fans who went home happy thanks to an injury-time goal.
Sam McQueen got the ball into the box and Shane Long was on hand to bundle in the cross and book a fourth-round tie against Arsenal.
RITCHIE AT THE DOUBLE FOR NEWCASTLE
It was much more comfortable for Newcastle United, who cruised through by winning 3-1 at home against fellow Championship side Birmingham City.
Matt Ritchie got Rafa Benitez's side up and running in the ninth minute from the penalty spot, after goalkeeper Adam Legzdins brought down Yoan Gouffran.
Gouffran made it 2-0 before half-time and, although David Cotterill got one back for the visitors, Ritchie struck again in injury-time, with Oxford United visiting St James' Park in round four.
