USA eliminated from U-17 World Cup after falling to Chile
Richie Williams' side finished at the bottom of its group after one draw and two defeats in group play.
The United States was eliminated from the U-17 World Cup on Friday night after losing 4-1 to host nation Chile in Vina del Mar
The U.S. got off to a great start just 10 minutes in. Brandon Vazquez picked up a poor clearing attempt at the top of the box, pushed the ball past his man and finished low past the goalkeeper to give his side a 1-0 lead.
The lead would only last for 10 minutes however. This time it was the U.S. which failed to clear its lines, and Marcelo Allende capitalized by blasting a shot from just inside the area that deflected past Will Pulisic in the U.S. goal.
Chile took the lead five minutes into the second half. A cutting through ball got past the U.S. back line and an onrushing Pulisic couldn't bring it in, leading to an easy tap-in for Gabriel Mazuela.
As the U.S. pushed for an equalizer, Chile sealed it with five minutes to go. Gonzalo Jara cut onto his left foot at the edge of the box and curled an excellent shot into the far corner.
There was still time for one final tally for the home side, as Camilo Moya finished low in the box to make the final margin convincing.
