Tendulkar hails retiring captain Dhoni
MS Dhoni's reign as India captain should be celebrated after he stepped down on Wednesday, according to legend Sachin Tendulkar.
India legend Sachin Tendulkar led the tributes to MS Dhoni after the wicketkeeper-batsman stepped down as one-day international and Twenty20 captain.
After relinquishing the Test captaincy in 2014, Dhoni continued to lead India in limited-overs cricket but after 199 ODIs in charge he has resigned from his role with immediate effect.
Dhoni, who led India to World Cup glory in 2011, will remain available for selection against England this month, the opening ODI taking place on January 15 in Pune.
Since his ODI debut in 2004, Dhoni has established himself as one of the world's best - particularly in the shorter forms of the game - and Tendulkar called for celebrations of his success as skipper.
"Congratulations to MSD on a wonderful career as a captain leading India to success in both T20 and ODI World Cups," Tendulkar posted on Twitter.
"Have seen him emerge from an aggressive player to a steady and decisive captain. It's a day to celebrate his successful captaincy and respect his decision.
"Wish MSD the very best as he continues entertaining us on the field with his exploits."
