Gennady Golovkin has retained his perfect record by defeating David Lemieux by TKO in the eighth round of their middleweight title fight at Madison Square Garden on Saturday.

He moves to a record of 34-0 with 31 knockouts, including 21 in a row, and now holds the WBA, WBC and IBF middleweight belts.

The Kazakh outpointed Lemieux from the first bell with a clinical display of jabbing followed by power shots.

Golovkin landed 170 jabs, while Lemieux connected with just 89 punches.

Lemieux tried admirably to compete with Golovkin and absorbed some massive bombs, but in the end was unable to get inside and land punches with any impact.

Jab after jab went to the head of the Canadian, resulting in bleeding from the nose which stopped the fight momentarily in the seventh.

Golovkin said he gave his fans a "big show".

"I'm not just a puncher, I can box too. My next goal is all the belts in the division," he said.

For his next bout, Golovkin wants the winner of the upcoming bout between Canelo Alvarez and Miguel Cotto.
