The Boston Celtics lost their grip on the final play-off spot in the Eastern Conference after they crashed to the Detroit Pistons 105-97 in overtime on Sunday.

Brad Stevens and his Celtics team had occupied the eighth and final post-season position ahead of the Charlotte Hornets prior to tip-off at TD Garden in Boston.

But the slumping Celtics (30-39) surrendered that spot to the Hornets (30-38), who accounted for the Minnesota Timberwolves 109-98, as the Pistons (26-44) came up trumps in the additional period to condemn the Boston franchise to a third consecutive defeat.

The Celtics had the chance to seal the win in regulation with the score locked at 88-apiece but Evan Turner, who finished with 23 points, lost control before shooting the ball.

And the Pistons stormed out of the blocks in overtime, scoring seven unanswered points on their way to their third win in four games.

Kentavious Caldwell-Pope led the Pistons with a game-high 27 points, while Andre Drummond had 18 points and 22 rebounds for a double-double.

Oklahoma City guard Russell Westbrook became the first NBA player in seven years to record 10 triple-doubles in a single season after the Thunder downed the Miami Heat 93-75.

Westbrook scored 12 points, tallied 17 assists and collected 10 rebounds to become the first player since Jason Kidd in 2007-08 to chalk up 10 triple-doubles in a campaign.

Sunday's victory saw the eighth-placed Thunder (40-30) stay two-and-a-half games clear in the Western Conference after nearest rivals the Phoenix Suns (38-33) overcame the Dallas Mavericks 98-92.

As for the Heat (32-37), they remain seventh in the East.

In other results, reigning champions the San Antonio Spurs rolled the Atlanta Hawks 114-95.

Blake Griffin and Chris Paul scored 23 points apiece, while J.J. Redick chipped in with 20 of his own as the Los Angeles Clippers defeated the New Orleans Pelicans 107-100.

The Cleveland Cavaliers were 108-90 winners over the Milwaukee Bucks, the Toronto Raptors dispatched the New York Knicks 106-89 and the Sacramento Kings shocked the Washington Wizards 107-96.

Elsewhere, the Los Angeles Lakers were too strong for the Philadelphia 76ers 101-87, while the Orlando Magic lost 119-110 to the Denver Nuggets.
