Ramirez powers Red Sox past Cubs, Nats pile on 23 runs
Tied 2-2 in the eighth inning, the Chicago Cubs gave up four runs off a wild pitch, a groundout and a throwing error to ultimately lose 6-2.
The Boston Red Sox used a late four-run rally to top reigning MLB World Series champions the Chicago Cubs.
Tied 2-2 in the eighth inning, the Cubs gave up four runs off a wild pitch, a groundout and a throwing error to ultimately lose 6-2 on Sunday.
Hanley Ramirez blasted a two-run homer off Kyle Hendricks in the first inning. He also walked and scored another run.
Perhaps the most exciting player for the Red Sox so far this season has been rookie Andrew Benintendi. The young outfielder went two-for-four with two runs scored, upping his average to a cool .333 this season.
Anthony Rendon's record-setting performance helped the Washington Nationals to a resounding 23-5 victory over the New York Mets.
Rendon's RBI total (10) set a new Nationals franchise record.
The Miami Marlins crushed the Pittsburgh Pirates 10-3, the Cleveland Indians routed the Seattle Mariners 12-4, the Detroit Tigers beat the Chicago White Sox 7-3, the San Diego Padres were 5-2 winners against the San Francisco Giants, the Los Angeles Dodgers topped the Philadelphia Phillies 5-3, the Houston Astros accounted for the Oakland Athletics 7-2, the Baltimore Orioles were too good for the New York Yankees 7-4 and the Los Angeles Angels trumped the Texas Rangers 5-2.
Meanwhile, the Toronto Blue Jays defeated the Tampa Bay Rays 3-1, the Minnesota Twins downed the Kansas City Royals 7-5, the Colorado Rockies lost 2-0 to the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Cincinnati Reds edged the St Louis Cardinals 5-4 and the Milwaukee Brewers overcame the Atlanta Braves 4-3.
RENDON FALLS SHORT OF MLB RECORD
Nobody even came close to matching Nationals third baseman Rendon's success on Sunday. Rendon went six-for-six with five runs scored, three home runs and 10 RBIs. His ridiculous RBI total was two off an MLB single-game record.
The Nationals ultimately beat the Mets on the strength of seven home runs as a team. Rendon had zero home runs and five RBIs entering the game. He definitely got back on pace for his normal averages with this outburst.
HUDSON'S NIGHTMARE LEADS TO PIRATES LOSS
Pirates relief pitcher Daniel Hudson allowed five earned runs in just 0.1 innings to sink Pittsburgh against the Marlins. The Pirates were trailing just 4-3 in the seventh inning when Hudson ended any chance of a comeback.
MYERS HOMERS TO SINK GIANTS
Wil Myers hit a three-run homer in the top of the 12th inning to lead the Padres to victory against the Giants. The home run was Myers' only hit of the game, but he is still batting .310 for the season.
RANGERS AT ASTROS
Houston will try to continue their dominance in the American League (AL) West by sending Lance McCullers Jr (2-1, 4.34 ERA) to do battle against the Rangers and Andrew Cashner (0-2, 2.93 ERA) on Monday. The Astros have a three-game lead in the west, but they have lost three of their last five games.
