Dibaba to 'write history' at Rio 2016
After a hamstring injury wrecked her London 2012, Genzebe Dibaba is determined to rule the world at Rio 2016.
Genzebe Dibaba has promised to "write history" at the Rio Games as she looks to erase the misery of her London 2012 experience.
Ethiopian distance runner Dibaba is the world record holder in 1500m, as well as 3000m and 5000m indoors, and has been tipped as a gold-medal prospect in the middle-distance events.
Having limped out of her 1500 heat in London after suffering a final-lap hamstring injury, Dibaba is determined to make her mark on Rio 2016.
"Especially for me this Olympics is unique," she told Omnisport. "What makes this Olympics unique is in 2012, if you remember I was running in London - I fell, I cried and I felt disappointed, depressed.
"But this time I am going to write history.
"Instead of crying, I'll be laughing and winning and this is why it's going to be special."
As well as her usual events, Dibaba is lining up a tilt at the 10,000m and will test her long-distance credentials at the Diamond League meeting in Eugene on May 28.
"I never did 10,000 before," she explained.
"I'm talking to my coaches at this time and hopefully I'm going to run but I didn't decide yet. I'm not sure.
"Maybe I will decide in the next two months and I'm going to run in Portland, Oregen [Eugene].
"So in two months' time I'm going to know definitely if I'm running 10,000 or not."
