Almoez Ali - team work made Saudi victory possible
Goal scoring hero Almoez Ali has had his day on Qatar’s 2-0 win over Saudi in a exclusive interview with beIN SPORTS.
Almoez Ali has hailed the teamwork of his side following their 2-0 win against Saudi Arabia on Thursday evening.
The 22-year-old striker scored his sixth and seventh goals of what has been a prolific Asian Campaign in each half to turn the contest in the the favour of the Maroons. Speaking after the game, Ali stresed that the work of his teammates handed him the goals and that he is not looking at winning the golden boot just yet.
“I don’t think about the Golden boot, I am thinking to win the competion. First the team, then my achivments.”
“Of course, I am playing as striker and I have to kill the teams, this comes from the good work with my team. We deserve to win, and we played well as a team I scored the goals but we all worked together” added Ali.
Much had been made of the atmosphere facing Qatar in Abu Dhabi, however Ali quickly dismissed the notion that the fans effected how his side played.
“It was nothing we played against Iran before in the Azidi against 100,000 supporters. This is nothing, today we focused on the game and what Saudi did and we played our style and we won.”
The Al Duhail attacker has argubly been the breakout star of the Asian Cup, but was quick to heap praise on midfielder Assim Madibo who had a starring role in the center of the park.
“Madibo in the last three games has been one of the best players in the side, he has helped us a lot. I think he will be one of the best midfielders at the Asian Cup.”
Attention will now turn to Tuesday evenings match against Iraq, and Ali belives that his side will have to be at their very best to reach the quarter-finals for the fifth time in Asian Cup history.
“Iraq are one of the strongest teams in Asia, we need to fight harder than today to reach the quarter-finals.”
