Manziel 'can definitely be' like Wilson, team-mate says
Johnny Manziel can definitely match what Russell Wilson is doing, according to a Cleveland Browns team-mate.
While Sunday's game between the Cleveland Browns and Seattle Seahawks is not exactly a sexy match-up, comparisons between the teams' quarterbacks keep coming.
The latest comparisons between Seattle's Russell Wilson and Cleveland's Johnny Manziel came on Saturday from Browns defensive end Desmond Bryant.
"Johnny can definitely be that same triple-threat guy," Bryant said, via the Cleveland Plain Dealer.
"Russell is a smart quarterback, he can throw the ball and he can make plays with his feet, so a triple-threat quarterback is always going to be a problem."
The Browns (3-10) have struggled to find any consistency this year at quarterback.
Manziel has gone 2-2 in his four starts this season, throwing for 1,203 yards with six touchdowns and three interceptions.
"Johnny's definitely one of those guys that can either outrun you or make you miss, so it's special,'' Bryant added. "If you're not ready for that, he's going to make you look bad.
"He really slings it and it seems natural for him. A lot of quarterbacks, you see that and it's unnatural. The ball comes out kind of funny. But for Johnny and guys like Wilson, it's a natural thing.''
Wilson, who helped the Seahawks win Super Bowl XLVIII and return to the main event this year, has thrown for 3,289 with 26 touchdowns and only seven interceptions in 13 starts.
Browns coach Mike Pettine got some unwarranted attention this week when he said Wilson was not among the NFL's handful of elite quarterbacks.
That led to outspoken Seahawks defensive end Michael Bennett mocking Pettine for his choice of quarterbacks this season in Josh McCown, Austin Davis and Manziel.
"Obviously he's not good at picking quarterbacks," Bennett said on Friday. "Maybe he doesn't know what elite is. I think that Russell Wilson is very elite. He's been to two Super Bowls. It's only his fourth year. I don't think a lot of guys can say that."
