Krunic wins Bol Open crown
Romanian Alexandra Cadantu retired in the second set of the Bol Open final, handing the title to Serbia's Aleksandra Krunic.
Aleksandra Krunic clinched a maiden WTA title after her opponent Alexandra Cadantu retired injured during the second set of the Bol Open final.
Russia-born Serbian Krunic was well on track to secure the victory having taken a 6-3 3-0 lead over Cadantu in Croatia.
Cadantu was unable to complete the match, leaving Krunic to celebrate her first title at WTA Tour level.
Krunic had never reached the final of a WTA singles event before but she broke in each of Cadantu's first three service games to take full control, taking her first set point to record another break after the Romanian briefly rallied.
The 24 year-old accepted it was difficult to celebrate her win at the clay-court event due to Cadantu being unable to complete the match.
"It's been my first semi-finals, finals and now victory speech," Krunic said.
"We all want to win regardless of the way [it happens]. I'm sorry that I cannot enjoy this moment."
