The No.8 seed fired down 17 aces in a two-hour, 27-minute quarter-final win against the Russian and now leads the No.4 seed 4-2 in their head-to-head.
Hurkacz will play in his 21st ATP Tour semi-final against Alcaraz, his first since Halle last June, as he aims to capture a ninth ATP Tour title.
But the Pole has yet to seal a win over the Spaniard in three meetings, losing on hard courts in Cincinatti and the Canadian Open in 2023 and also in Miami in 2022.
