Brazil 3-0 Chile: Estevao nets bicycle kick in one-sided victory
Brazil showed their quality in Thursday's World Cup qualifier against Chile, with Estevao capping an impressive performance with a goal.
Estevao netted an incredible first competitive goal for Brazil to set them on their way to a 3-0 win over Chile in their penultimate World Cup qualifier.
Brazil moved up to second in the qualifying table, while Chile's woes went on as they failed to pose a threat to Carlo Ancelotti's team in his first match at the Maracana.
Casemiro had a glancing header disallowed for offside in the fourth minute, with Estevao then breaking the deadlock in the 38th minute in some style on the goal line.
Lawrence Vigouroux smothered Raphinha's left-sided shot, but just when it looked like it was looping in, Estevao helped it over the line with a bicycle kick between two defenders.
Moments later, Gabriel Martinelli dragged a chance for a second Brazil goal wide before Guillermo Maripan was shown a red card for clipping Wesley's Achilles, but it was downgraded to a yellow card after a VAR review on the stroke of half-time.
Lucas Paqueta had an instant impact after coming off the bench in the second half, rising high to head Luiz Henrique's cross into the top corner from on the line in the 72nd minute.
Just four minutes later, Brazil got their third. Luiz Henrique struck the underside of the bar after a lovely give-and-go with Bruno Guimaraes, who was on hand to poke the rebound over the line and finish off a fine performance.
Data Debrief: Estevao matches Pele
Estevao, at 18-years-old, became the youngest Brazilian player to score a competitive goal since a 17-year-old Pele at the 1958 World Cup.
It was a comfortable victory for Brazil, who barely gave their opponents a way into the game, accumulating 3.95 expected goals (xG) from their 22 shots.
Chile, who sit bottom of the qualifying table, failed to get any of their three efforts on target (0.03 xG), the first time they have failed to test a goalkeeper in a competitive match since October 2012 (against Ecuador).
