Nyland howler hands Portugal victory over Norway

Nyland gifted possession to Ramos, who lofted in the winning goal, with that error coming just three minutes after Erling Haaland had hauled Stale Solbakken's side level.

Joao Felix laid the foundations for the visitors' win in the first half, with Jorge Jesus's strong start to his Portugal tenure seeing his team go top of the Group A4 table.

Both sides started brightly at Ullevaal Stadion, with Joao Neves heading over before Haaland's first-time effort was brilliantly kept out by Diogo Costa at his near post.

However, it was Jorge Jesus' side that took the lead in the 17th minute through Joao Felix, who placed a fine finish from the edge of the penalty area past the dive of Nyland and into the bottom-left corner after Pedro Neto's cutback.

Norway cranked up the pressure at the end of the first half, with Haaland's towering header thwarted by Costa once again, with the Manchester City forward then nodding into the grateful arms of the Portugal goalkeeper in first-half stoppage-time.

Haaland, however, was not to be denied his customary goal. Martin Odegaard's free-kick was spilled by Costa, with Patrick Berg nodding the rebound across the six-yard box for the Norway number nine to tuck home the leveller six minutes after the restart.

But no sooner had it got level, Norway fell behind again. A calamitous error from Nyland saw his pass picked off by Ramos, who took a touch before lofting the ball over the retreating goalkeeper and into the net.

Rafael Leao nearly made an instant impact off the bench, but his shot deflected off Fredrik Aursnes and on to the crossbar, before the video assistant referee (VAR) saved Nyland from further embarrassment.

A long ball forward from Costa caught Norway napping and Ramos was able to steal in front of Nyland before finishing, but the goal was ruled out for an offside against him.

The hosts controlled the final 15 minutes, with Andreas Schjelderup forcing Costa into action, but Portugal's defence held firm to make it two wins from two to begin its UEFA Nations League title defence.
