The Bhoys won their 56th Scottish top-flight title, the most of any team, on the final day of the last campaign with a 3-1 win over title hopefuls Hearts.

Celtic has won the Premiership in 14 of the last 15 seasons, with the exception being 2020-2021, when Rangers won it, but last season's title was achieved the hard way.

Martin O'Neill twice took charge as interim boss, first after Brendan Rodgers's departure and then after Wilfried Nancy's sacking, though he guided Celtic to glory both in the league and the Scottish Cup.

Celtic won its last nine games across all competitions to end the season, leading to O'Neill receiving a one-year deal as permanent manager.

McGregor, meanwhile, was linked with a move to Saudi Arabia earlier this summer, but has since said he wants to retire at Celtic.

The 33 year-old is more motivated than ever, and he wants to win the Premiership with more flair this season.

"There were obviously a few circumstances that made it more challenging than perhaps it has been in the past few seasons," McGregor said.

"You have to make sure when you face those challenges, you can overcome them. The group of boys and the staff that pulled the team through a really difficult season – that's what you need to build.

"Good characters, people that are willing to go to the death for each other.

"This season, hopefully, we can do it in a bit more style, the way that we're used to.

"Work's been going on through pre-season to make sure that happens."

Celtic begins Premiership title defence on 3 August against Dundee FC.
