Como captain Da Cunha signs new deal
Como has handed captain Lucas Da Cunha a new five-year contract after he led them to Champions League qualification last season.
Cesc Fabregas's team finished fourth in Serie A last season, in what was only its second campaign back in Italy's top flight after a 21-year absence.
Da Cunha appeared in all but two of Como's league games last season, starting 31 times, while scoring six goals and assisting four.
Como has been busy in the transfer market ahead of its debut on Europe's grandest stage, bringing in Alvaro Morata from AC Milan and completing a €60m deal to make Paz's loan from Real Madrid permanent, as well as making four other signings.
It completed another important piece of business on Thursday, extending Da Cunha's previous deal – which was due to expire in 2029 – for two more years.
Fabregas told the club's website: "Lucas represents everything we want to build at Como. I had the privilege of playing alongside him when he first arrived, and since then I have watched him grow into a top midfielder, our captain and a real leader for this team.
"He has been part of every step of our journey. What makes him special is not only his quality, but his humility, intelligence and willingness to work for the team every single day."
Da Cunha joined Como when it was still in Serie B in January 2023 and has made 129 appearances for the club overall, scoring 20 goals and providing 15 assists.
