Signing new deal was an easy decision for Aston Villa defender Cash
Despite a reported return to Nottingham Forest, Matty Cash pledged his future to Aston Villa by signing a new four-year deal last month.
Matty Cash insisted it was an easy decision to extend his contract with Aston Villa, despite having offers from other clubs over the summer.
Cash, who signed for Villa from Nottingham Forest for a reported £16m transfer fee in 2020, put pen to paper on a new deal that will keep him at Villa Park until 2029 last month.
The 28-year-old has gone on to make 195 appearances for the Villans across all competitions, scoring 12 goals while also registering 11 assists for his team-mates.
He has become an integral part of Unai Emery's squad since the Spaniard's arrival at the club back in October 2022.
Indeed, only Ollie Watkins (150), John McGinn, Ezri Konsa (both 141), Emiliano Martinez (135) and Lucas Digne (117) have made more appearances under Emery at Villa than Cash's 117 in all competitions.
But even after making 38 appearances for the club in 2024-25, 34 of which were from the start, Cash was linked with a move away from Villa, with Forest reportedly keen on his signature.
However, the Poland international explained in an exclusive interview with ESPN that he had no interest in leaving Villa.
"I had two offers from different clubs in the summer, but I never really focused on that," he said.
"My main priority is to stay at Villa. I think Villa's a great club. I've done a lot of work there, obviously, over the years to progress, and I still think there's a lot more to go to.
"So my main priority I said in the summer to the manager when we had a chat that I wanted to stay.
"I wanted to keep improving and this year I think I found a good little bit of form and [I was] delighted that they came to me and offered me a deal.
"We always have an end-of-season talk, and he just asked me where I was at and how I was feeling and that he'd love to keep me.
"I still had a few years left on my contract as well, but it was a point where 'was I going to renew or what was the case?'
"I had an open and honest chat that I really wanted to stay. It's a great club. I feel really settled here. I feel at home here.
"I've got my house and stuff here, and I just wanted to commit to my future, and then they came to me and offered me a new contract.
"It had been in the pipeline for a few months when we had the conversation. But I was never really set on leaving. I feel at home and feel settled.
"I have a good connection with the manager.
"We have a lot of conversations, not regularly, but we have conversations one-to-one a lot, and he's a massive part of me, obviously committing and obviously the club as well.
"It speaks for itself. Obviously, playing for such a big club is an honour, but having a manager that's so good behind it is definitely a big key factor."
Cash has made a fine start to the 2025-26 campaign, scoring two league goals in 11 appearances, a total only bettered by Tottenham's Micky van de Ven (three) among defenders in the Premier League.
The full-back is one of three Villa players to commit their future to the club, with captain John McGinn and Morgan Rogers also extending their stays at Villa Park over the last couple of weeks.
