Madueke 'made up' about Arsenal support after initial fan criticism
Noni Madueke scored his first Arsenal goal in their Champions League win over Bayern Munich, netting their second in a 3-1 victory.
Noni Madueke revealed that he is "made up" about the support he has received from Arsenal fans at the Emirates Stadium after initial criticism ahead of his signing.
While his transfer from Chelsea moved closer to completion during the summer, a petition was signed by over 4,000 people to protest the move.
Madueke returned from a two-month knee injury during the north London derby before scoring their second in their 3-1 victory against Bayern Munich.
It was his first goal for Arsenal in all competitions, his first-ever Champions League goal and his first for any club since May, when he scored for Chelsea against Djurgarden, ending a run of 17 games without a goal.
Despite the criticism he faced earlier in the season, Madueke was delighted with the reception he received over the last two matches.
"You are in the public eye - people can say whatever they want about you," said Madueke.
"But being in the stadium, and how the fans have taken to me in the stadium, is unbelievable.
"The last game versus Tottenham was incredible, and that gives me such a boost.
"I play on the side of the pitch. I can feel them; I can hear them. When they are that positive about me, it gives me a massive boost. Honestly, I am made up about it."
Next up for Premier League leaders Arsenal is a trip to second-place Chelsea on Sunday.
The Blues are six points behind the Gunners and come into the game off the back of a resounding 3-0 win over Barcelona in the Champions League.
Madueke insisted that his return to his former side is not about him, with his focus solely on Arsenal.
"It might be a little bit hostile; it might not be. But I am a professional footballer," Madueke added.
"I have played in loads of atmospheres. I don't know if anything will faze me. I will just be focused on the task.
"The fixture is not about me. The fixture is about Arsenal getting another three points in the league and being closer to the objective."
