Forest denied winner in stalemate with Spurs
Neco Williams had a potential winner ruled out for Nottingham Forest, which played out a 0-0 draw with Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League.
Both sides struggled to create clear-cut chances, but it looked like Forest had found the breakthrough after Williams's brave attempt to head it over the line, but it was denied because of a handball.
Omar Marmoush had Spurs' best opportunities, finding an opening in either half, but Roberto De Zerbi's side is still waiting for its first league goal of 2026-2027.
After a cagey opening to the match, Murillo swept a volley high over the bar from a recycled corner before James McAtee tamely shot straight at Antonin Kinsky after a blistering counter-attack.
But Marmoush had the first clear-cut opportunity after getting goalside of Williams, but he flashed his shot just wide of the post while one-on-one with Matz Sels.
Forest continued to up the pressure in the first half, and Jair Cunha fired just over before Morgan Gibbs-White aimed straight at Kinsky after racing in behind Spurs when it looked easier to score.
Micky van de Ven headed wide as Spurs wasted corner after corner in the opening stages of the second half, but the defining moment came 66 minutes in.
Gibbs-White raced in behind the visitors' defence once more and saw a low shot loop up off Kinsky. Sandro Tonali missed the ball as he attempted to clear and Williams threw himself on to it, bundling it over the line. However, it hit his hand before crossing the line, with the decision overturned after a video assistant referee (VAR) review.
Marmoush blazed over late on after being played in on goal by Kinsky, but Mohammed Kudus had been in a great position to convert had he chosen to play him in, and neither side could find a late breakthrough.
De Zerbi believes the quality in Tottenham's attack is too good not to score many goals, despite failing to find the back of the net once.
"In terms of performance, I am very, very proud. I'm delighted to watch my players fight like this. We didn't risk conceding goals," he said.
"We are working now, because we started last Thursday, very happy with the spirit, the attitude, the behaviour of the players. This is our way, great qualities of the players.
"The human level of the dressing room is great, now we have to work and improve at all levels of football. Our mood is to win, to win, to win.
"But I think we have to stay calm to keep the confidence. Then I think we have players good enough to score many goals, like [Dominic] Solanke, Savio, [Omar] Marmoush."
Spurs are aiming to improve after back-to-back 17th-place finishes in the Premier League, and De Zerbi was asked whether he had the necessary tools to succeed.
"I'm very happy with the transfer market, I think the club, the sporting director and the CEO worked on it very, very well with ambition and clear ideas," he said.
"Now we have to work because, in football, you cannot ask for time but without time you can do nothing."
