Crystal Palace signs free agent Tomiyasu
After regaining his fitness during a short spell with Ajax last term, former Arsenal defender Takehiro Tomiyasu will look to return to his best with Crystal Palace.
The 27-year-old took part in Palace's pre-season camp after his 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign with Japan, and has now joined on a permanent basis as a free transfer.
The Eagles have not confirmed the length of Tomiyasu's contract, but he becomes new manager Pierre Sage's second signing after Oscar Mingueza.
The former Arsenal defender, who can play across the backline, spent the second half of the 2025-2026 season with Ajax as he recovered from his previous injury problems, but he is now back in the Premier League.
"I’m excited to get started," Tomiyasu said.
"This club is in a good moment, winning three titles in two seasons. Here is where I wanted to be."
Tomiyasu made 84 appearances for Arsenal after joining in 2021, but played just one match in his final season because of injury.
Tomiyasu could make his competitive debut for the Eagles when they face Everton in their Premier League opener on 23 August (AEST).
