Coventry completes record deal for Ghana star
Coventry City has made Ghana midfielder Caleb Yirenkyi its latest acquisition ahead of returning to the Premier League, paying Nordsjaelland a club-record £26 million ($49.6 million) fee.
The Sky Blues did not release the terms of Yirenkyi's contract, which they only described as "long-term".
The 20-year-old moved to Denmark in 2024, and his performances in the Superliga have seen him win 15 senior caps for Ghana.
He started three of the Black Stars' four games at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where it qualified as one of the best third-place finishers from a group containing England, before losing to Colombia in the Round of 32.
He scored the decisive goal in their only victory at the tournament, netting late on in a 1-0 triumph over Panama on matchday one.
Yirenkyi is the fifth player to join Frank Lampard's side ahead of its Premier League opener against reigning champion Arsenal on 22 August (AEST).
Coventry has now spent an estimated £85 million ($162.2 million) to bolster its squad after winning the EFL Championship last season, with Aurele Amenda, Loum Tchaouna, Carl Rushworth and Frank Onyeka also joining, the latter duo after being on loan at the club in 2025-2026.
Yirenkyi said: "I'm excited to be at this club. I've heard so much about it, and I really feel positive about being here.
"When I spoke to the head coach about the plans and the style, it's something I really like, and I look forward to learning from him.
"I want to give my best to the team each and every day. I'm still young, so I want to learn from the head coach, the other players and work really hard for the team."
